Why Discovery Church?
Most of us have more than a few choices about what church we could join in partnership for the ministry of the gospel. We believe our uniqueness is best expressed in 5 ideas:
1. An approach that is focused on transformation. Our vision isn't about you learning facts about Jesus or sitting in a class. Our vision is about facilitating transformation in your life so you can experience life to the full in Jesus. You can learn on the internet or you can experience transformation with us. Each January we measure our effectiveness through your feedback and our pastor openly shares his brokenness to facilitate transformation.
2. A worship gathering that acknowledges the full spectrum of our emotions. We believe how you feel is important. We believe it's part of how God speaks to you. So there will be moments in our gatherings of great joy and celebration. The band will rock out the celebration. There will also be moments to process your doubts and everything in between. The Bible is full of passages that acknowledge intense joy and deep sadness. We help facilitate that transformation as you learn that God is now here, with you.
3. A children's ministry that is safe, dynamic, and doesn't guilt people into serving. We have built two theaters (one for children and one for preschoolers) to have a dynamic teaching and worship experience that is on par with the excellence they interact with in their daily worlds. Yet, the way we've structured our children's ministry doesn't require the intensive amount of volunteers many children's ministries do. This makes us unique because while God has called adults to minister to these precious little ones we don't want to guilt people into serving in those areas that aren't called to be there.
4. A church calendar that is full of breathing room. The research is in. More activity doesn't equal greater spiritual maturity. While we treasure our worship gatherings, small groups, occasional picnics, and other events our focus is not on adding more activity. We believe if you are at the church building all the time you may be missing the opportunity to experience church in your daily rhythm.
5. A church with a big vision tempered by serious stewardship. We have no mortgage and we like it that way. We want to help as many people as possible discover life to the full in Jesus. We want to be challenged to be free of greed and live generous lives. But we want to have simple finances. You will be challenged to participate and give but we built our facility to support multiple gatherings on a Sunday to model the financial freedom we're inviting you to experience. We do not have to stress out over numbers instead we can focus on discovering life.
Bottom Line: We value Spirit-empowered living. A life lived in response to God's love is designed to be guilt-free. We're not asking you to conform to us. We want transformation for you. And we know lasting transformation isn't a response to condemnation but an acceptance of God's love for us in Jesus. We're not looking to build a tribe of followers but a rowdy, passionate tribe of influencers for the gospel. We know that Jesus is the path to the Father but there are many paths to Jesus. We embrace the freedom and permission to seek in Him in our unique way. This means we're not the church for everybody, and that's fine with us. But if you resonate with these words then we'd love to have you participate in our Sunday gathering at 11 am.
