Discovery Church uses The City as a tool to help us connect to and serve one another. Think of it as something that works as our own internal facebook (in conjunction with the one you already use) and so much more. If you aren't on The City you will miss out on what it means to connect to Discovery Church. We use The City to help you connect to a small group, join discussions, give online, and connect with others in the Discovery Church family. The City is also the tool we use for a secure children's check-in experience on Sunday morning.

Our financial coaches want to have a confidential, one-on-one meeting with you and your spouse to begin the process. [As needed, childcare can be provided for a small fee.]

They will tailor each coaching meeting based on your financial needs and goals, but at a minimum they will help you do the following:

· Prepare a written, monthly budget
· Create a plan to reduce and eliminate your debt
· Give you money-saving tips
· Encourage you to be generous with tithes and offerings

Baptism is a special moment in your life and an opportunity to share your faith in Christ with others. When you are baptized, no matter what your age or background, you are obeying Jesusʼ command to all of His followers.

Water baptism symbolizes Jesusʼ death, burial and resurrection (Romans 6:1-4).   Water baptism portrays your sins being forgiven and cleansed. Your sins are forgiven when you confess them (1 John 1:9) and are cleansed by Jesusʼ shed blood (1 John 1:7). Your baptism shows others a vivid picture of that cleansing and forgiveness.  Baptism itself does not secure your salvation—but it does identify you with Jesus Christ and His church. By being baptized, you are saying to the world, “My life is committed from this point forward to Jesus Christ.”

Small groups are gatherings that occur throughout the week of 8 - 12 (more or less) folks. The purpose of the groups are to develop relationships and simply experience life in Jesus together. For some this a bible study. For others it might center around an activity. Some are longer and meet throughout the year. Some meet for shorter periods. Some are gender specific while others are mixed, whether single or married. As we add groups your opportunities for growth increase.

Small groups are available for our students (6th-12th grade) and adults. Children have their small groups on Sunday morning during their worship time.

How can I join a small group?

Go to The City, our online community. From there, after you click "I need an account" and set one up then you can view the groups. You can select which one works best for you based on your life stage, desires, and location. In addition, immediately following our worship gathering on Sunday, February 26 we will have sign ups for small groups in the DC Cafe.

Attending the meeting does not obligate you to lead a small group, so if you just want to find out what it's all about and hear from experienced small group leaders please join us on February 19 @ 2pm.

We want your stories of transformation, impact, and life change. Our mission at Discovery Church is to help people discover life to the full in Jesus. We focus on four actions related to the mission Worship, Give, Serve and Risk. Where have you been changed in these areas and where have you been able to impact others using the overflow in your own life?

No story is too small or too big, we want to hear every one of them!

The Children's theaters will be closed so that families can worship and celebrate Christmas together for Christmas Eve.  The nursery will still be available for newborns through 3 years.

We will also be decorating the church for the Christmas season after our meal and family time if you want to stay and help.  YOU DON'T NEED TO HELP DECORATE TO HANG OUT! We value spending time with you, community is a huge part of church and we don't want to miss a chance to spend the afternoon together.

We can't wait to spend time with you Sunday, November 27th immediately after the worship service.

This Thursday will be extra special because we have 2 staff members who have taken the steps to become licensed pastors.  As a church body we will be affirming their gifts, their calling to ministry and praying for them as they begin their awesome journey!

I Normally Don’t Do This

It’s the end of the year and I’m writing you because we need to share a few things with you!  As a church we have seen a TON of amazing things happen this year like:

• At only the 14 week mark we celebrated baptisms!
• We helped supply a downtown food pantry.
• We saw the launch of our student ministry
• And the doubling of the church from the launch.
• Oh yeah, how about a debt-free building?!

We need to get $6,000.00 to the company that installed our A/V equipment! (Think 21 chairs for "chairs for worship")

This isn't the final balance but this is the critical need at this moment. We are so very close to ending our year right!  I know a lot of you will be out of town for the last offering opportunity during the last week of December.  The purpose of this letter is to be honest with you and ask you to make a year-end donation that will go towards taking care of the urgent need.
We are asking you and every person that loves this church to make a year-end donation that will bridge the gap from where we are to where we need to be.

Most people think their gift will be insignificant and not help.  You could not be further from the truth.  Powerful things happen when each person takes a minute and asks God, “What do you want me to give this year-end?”

As your Pastor, I have never been as bold to ask for a year-end gift; however, this year is different. We want to finish strong so we can start ministering strong in 2011!

So I’m asking you to:

1. Ask God, “What do you want me to do financially this year?”

2. Give a one-time gift toward our year-end gift offering by Dec. 31, 2010

3. Ask God to bless the gift so many lives will be touched.

 Our student ministry launches Wednesday, October 20th, at 7:00 pm. Our church's worship worship space will be theirs to use. We want the 6th-12th graders to have an awesome worship experience. We rock it loud on Sundays. They'll rock it louder on Wednesdays. The students are in their own boot camp phase of ministry right now so help us spread word. If you want to discover life you must discover transformation. This 3 week series explores the concepts involved in experiencing transformation. Hurts, inadequacies, and pretenses are either blocking or facilitating your transformation. Come find out how to discover life!

We felt like a few phrases were worth explaining...

"...fund-raising takes center stage..." : We're not against fundraising. All our ministry occurs through the generosity of others. We just want to be careful to make sure the cart doesn't drive the horse. Our focus is your transformation.

"...transformation we track..." : Our vision is based on your growth in four areas. Once a year we will survey the church according to the measurables of our vision to answer the question: Are we helping you discover life by experiencing the transformation God desires?

"...new church experience..." : Seriously? Yep. We've structured our environments to need less and give more. Our children's ministry and guest services are top notch but structured for low stress on those making it happen. We know you can be so busy at a church building you miss ministry in your world. Our new building is paid for and requires no 3 year pledge. In today's world that's new. But it's really kind of old too. We don't think the early church was built on "filling slots".

"We're not here to guilt you..." : We want you to know that while there is one pathway to the Father and that's Jesus, there are many pathways to Jesus. We want to help you find your journey with Him.
